Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) recognizes that learning happens in many settings. If you hold a national or state certification in Emergency Medical Services, you may be eligible to receive college credit for courses that align with your existing knowledge and skills. This helps you progress through the program more efficiently.

EMT Certification Holders

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)

National Registry or Virginia State Certification

If you possess a national or state certification in Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), you may be eligible to receive credit for the following courses:

  • HLT 105 Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation 1 Credit
  • EMS 111 Emergency Medical Technician 7 Credits
  • EMS 120 Emergency Medical Technician - Clinical 1 Credit

Total Potential Credits: 9

AEMT Certification Holders

Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT)

National Registry or Virginia State Certification

If you possess an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) certification, you may be eligible to receive credit for the EMT courses listed above, plus the following additional courses:

  • EMS 170 ALS Internship 1 Credit
